When my neatly packed life turned upside down, I searched to find something to soothe me, something familiar, something that reminded me of calmer, comforting times.
Some of my happier moments were spent riding horses while growing up in Texas, so I started doodling images of fancy boots to help soothe my soul. I also grasped at traditional and non-traditional self-care techniques to try to find a way back to my voice and my passion. Yoga, meditation, mindfulness, devotionals, social groups, exercise, supplements, therapy, walking - it wasn't one particular thing that helped heal me. Instead, these things gave me tools to craft a "new" me out of the broken pieces. It has been a long road back and I still have a distance to go.
Colors Of A Cowgirl is one of first results of my journey.

As a little girl, I dreamed of being a rodeo queen. It took a few attempts, hours and hours of practice and a just a bit of luck to win that first crown. I learned so much from those queen days. Those pretty crowns can get heavy, both literally and figuratively. It is hard to wear one on your head for 16 hours without getting a headache, and when you have it on your head, you are representing the entire sport of rodeo. Nevertheless, those days were magical, and worth every bit of the sweat, long hours and yes, a few tears that were shed.
Colors of A Cowgirl: Rodeo Queen is for all my sash sisters who have traveled the same journey.

Tammy Pennington from Fate, Texas is a professional western artist and a fourth generation Texan. An accomplished equestrian, she raised and trained several APHA champions and competed on a national level in the arena. After wrapping up a career as a professional project and event manager for a major media company, she launched the Colors of a Cowgirl brand, publishing her first western-themed coloring book. A second original book, titled Rodeo Queen, debuted in 2019. These coloring books are frequently included in the prize packages for regional and national rodeo queen contests each year. Steadily gaining a following as the premier rodeo queen portrait artist, Tammy has presented the outgoing Miss Rodeo USA and Miss Rodeo America with a queen portrait for the past five years. She currently holds an executive position with the Rockwall Art League. Her original art can be found in galleries and art exhibits across the southwest.
